About Me

Hi, I’m Cheryl Shutes. I grew up in Elkhart, Indiana, and I’m excited to bring my lifelong passion for helping people into my new career in real estate. Before stepping into this role, I spent 27 years as a registered nurse, including many years working in the emergency room and later earning my master’s degree to become a Nurse Practitioner. Nursing has shaped who I am today — it taught me to listen deeply, think on my feet, stay organized in unpredictable situations, and, above all, care for people during life’s biggest moments.
Real estate may seem like a big leap from nursing, but I see it as a natural extension of my commitment to serving others. Buying or selling a home can be one of the most emotional and exciting chapters in a person’s life — and just like in healthcare, it requires trust, empathy, clear communication, and someone who will always have your best interest at heart.
My love for real estate began years ago thanks to my stepmom, Kay Lambdin, who sold homes for Fortino-Minsell Realty and later RE/MAX 100 Realty in Elkhart. I loved hearing her stories about helping families find just the right home, and seeing how her relationships grew as families moved into bigger homes or new neighborhoods.
Having lived and raised my family in the Penn Harris Madison School District, I know this community inside and out, and I’m equally familiar with my hometown of Elkhart and the beautiful lakes in lower Michigan — from Birch to Shave Head and Diamond Lakes. Lake life holds a special place in my heart, and I love helping others find their own slice of shoreline paradise.
One reason I chose to join Howard Hanna is their dedication to giving back. Supporting my community has always been important to me — during my years in Indianapolis, I volunteered with Midwest Food Bank and helped with The Christmas Store, providing toys for children during the holidays.
